About:
New Years Eve, 31 December 1999, and the world was about to say goodbye to a thousand years of years starting with 1. It was a time of great excitement and expectations everywhere and the world – and especially Sydney – was ready to party. Sydney was the first major city in the world to celebrate midnight and the change to 2000. The World’s media was watching to see what would happen – and Sydney was ready to show them just how to welcome in the new Millennium. Rock The Millennium was Sydney’s biggest party that year, a huge concert held on the edge of the Harbour, just a short way from the centre of the city and the Bridge and those famous fireworks. On the stage were the best Australian bands and acts in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience – with many travellers and tourists from all over the world.
Their energy, excitement and enthusiasm supercharged the acts – and those performances were captured by cameras which broadcast the concert live to Australia. Highlights were sent throughout the world: to the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. This release of the concert is the result of days of researching and restoring the original concert master tapes with enhanced image and soundtrack. A whole new digital experience which presents the performances so they are as fresh as the day were first broadcast. Enjoy the show and relive that great night.

About:
Live in Vienna features brilliant jazz bassist Rufus Reid alongside pianist Fritz Pauer and drummer John Hollenbeck recorded live at a venue called Porgy & Bess. The five selections come in at close to an hour and are beautifully filmed. Great shots of Pauer's hands on the piano give producer Barbara Weissenbeck's video a unique angle that is most inviting for those who appreciate these maestros working at their craft. "The music has to have a pulse...so people can come to you," Reid says in the too-short three-minute interview. The DVD includes an electronic three-page biography and one-page discography. Where a DVD like Ona Ma Sile from Polish pop group Varius Manx has hours of things to explore, this is brief and to the point. It's the music here that is exquisite, with real power on the almost nine-minute "Cherokee" and subtle inflections from each member of the trio on "Ode to Ray." The players get to stretch across the finale, "The Meddler," with lots of catchy improvisation. There are no frills here outside of the masterful musicianship, making for an excellent set of sounds. Wayne Darling is listed as musical director.

About:
Formed in 1978, SILVER MOUNTAIN was initially an instrumental group based around the duo of bassist Pr Stadin and vocalist/guitarist Jonas Hansson. Among the band's earliest members were keyboard player Jens Johansson and his drummer brother Anders Johansson, both of whom would later join Yngwie Malmsteen. According to MusicMight, SILVER MOUNTAIN's debut commercial release with the Johansson brothers came in the form of the track "She Needs" on the 1982 GS Music compilation "Sknsk Rock". The brothers quit to join Yngwie Malmsteen after the "Shakin' Brains" album came out in 1984. There are bootlegs culled from jam sessions circulating from this period that feature the Johansson brothers, Yngwie Malmsteen and Per Stadin. For 1985's "Universe" album SILVER MOUNTAIN added NORDEN LIGHT singer Christer Mentzer and re-recruited Martin Hedener on drums. A SILVER MOUNTAIN reformation album, "Breakin' Chains", was issued by the Japanese Avalon Marquee label in 2001. SILVER MOUNTAIN is now back together and will be available for any and all festival appearances. The band has already been confirmed to appear at next year's edition of the Headbangers Open Air festival, which will take place in Brande-Hrnerkirchen, Germany.

While many of pianist and composer Andrew Hill's contemporaries were totally jettisoning the rhythmic and harmonic techniques of bop and hard bop, Hill worked to extend their possibilities. His was a revolution from within. – he exhibited a determined command of his materials, however abstract they might sometimes be. His composed melodies were labyrinthine, rhythmically and harmonically complex tunes that exhibit a sophistication born of mastery, not chance or contingency. As a pianist, Hill had a flowing melodicism and an elastic sense of time. Like his composing, Hill's playing had an ever-present air of spontaneity and was almost completely devoid of cliché. James “Blood” Ulmer is one of the few guitarists to have forged a style based largely on the traditions of African-American vernacular music. Ulmer is an adherent of saxophonist/composer Ornette Coleman's vaguely defined Harmelodic theory and plays with a stuttering, vocalic attack; his jagged lines speak with the authority of a free jazz improviser and the accent of a soul-jazz tenor saxophonist. His solo guitar work is an expressive, hard-edged, loudly amplified hybrid. But Ulmer isn't limited in his musical scope. In these sessions, he reveals himself to be an instant inventor of repute on the flute and a memorable songwriter and blues singer. Songs performed include: Are You Glad to Be in America? • Black Sheep • In the Name • Street Bride • Satisfy (Story of My Life) • Secret • Where Did All the Girls Come From? 50 minutes.
